Double Victory for Under 16s
The Under 16s put on an impressive performance at Abbey Hill on August 16th with comprehensive wins over Bedfordshire and Middlesex.

On a very breezy day, the team, with two of it''s lowest handicappers missing played some superb golf to keep their hopes alive of a Four Counties League Title.

Captain Will Cooper and Jake Dines had a double victory 6/5 and 5/4 in the foursomes although we still trailed to both counties overall at lunch.

But the singles were a diff Find out more...

Under 16s Triangular League Match
In the second of this years triangular league matches the Under 16s were out at Stanmore on July 27th against Middlesex and Hertfordshire.

The venue was a tight course with some ''interesting'' holes and the team had mixed results.

We beat the home side by a point but once again Herts were able to beat us 7-5.

Middlesex have a good side with depth all the way through. Herts were without their two strongest players but still managed to field a great team. Their j Find out more...

U18's Narrow Victory against Beds
The day didn''t start well. Yours truly managed to select 9 players for an 8-aside match! Fortunately Will Cooper graciously withdrew and went back to Woburn for a friendly fourball. I now owe him a sleeve of balls and his Dad a pint or two!

John O''Gaunt Golf Club has two fine courses and we played the shorter Carthagena in a straight singles match.

Captain, Dean Newbold was a little jaded after his 36 hole efforts at the Colts Champs the day before and despite losing his  Find out more...

U16s Start Well
The Under 16s started the season well in the league at Mid Herts Golf Club.

On a beautiful sunny day the team raced to a big victory over Bedfordshire and were narrowly pipped by Hertfordshire in this triangular matchplay format.

We started in the best possible fashion with two stunning 9/7 wins in the foursomes from ''in form'' players Luke Fitzpatrick and Tom Butterworth. By lunchtime we were 3-1 up to Beds and 2-2 with a strong Herts team containing 3 England Regional pl Find out more...

What about nutrition and hydration
As the playing season gets underway we need to consider what and how we drink and eat in the period leading up to and during competition.
A lack of either or both will result in a serious deterioration of energy and brain power.

So you can think of having a good food and drink plan as starting the first hole of the competition already 2 up!

You play better when you are relaxed and at ease, well fed and properly hydrated so please review the May 2010 guide.

Dean Newbold - Junior Champion 2010
Congratualtions to Dean Newbold who beat the best juniors in the County at West Berks Golf Club to become the Junior Champion for 2010.

Dean started 3 over for the first three holes in the morning but, like a true professional, he kept his head and calmly went on to sink a monster birdie on the 4th. From there he played steadily in the morning before shooting a best-of-the day level par in the afternoon to win narrowly over Alex Stubbs.

Despite his win, Dean looked less tha Find out more...

Still Unbeaten!
The Elite U18 team continued their unbeaten record for 2010 with two fine wins over Hampshire and Wiltshire.

The triangular match was played on a windy, exposed course at Weybrook Park where scoring was difficult. The greens had been hollow-tined recently and meant that approach shots needed to be close.

Before the match we talked about grinding to the end if necessary and our boys did this extremely well; in some cases snatching a victory and in others extending matches th Find out more...

Six all in first match against Oxford Blues
The match was played on March 13 at Witney Lakes on a dry but cold day. Our opponents were the Oxford Blues in their last friendly before their annual Varsity match against Cambridge. The match was drawn 6 all!

Notable performances came from Dean Newbold who beat C Concul, the winner of the Italian amateur a few years ago, 2&1.

Sam Westmancoat played the Blues skipper who holed a testing 15 footer on the 17th for a birdie requiring Sam to make his 8 footer to take it to th Find out more...

Junior Elite match Wellington Scholars
We had an excellent junior match against a strong Wellington College side and halved the event 4-4. In showery conditions the teams navigated their way twice around the tight nine hole course.

We were without two of our senior players - James Brockington on holiday in the US and Jordan Mann playing for Wellington at number 4.

Playing at number 1, Jake Canning is still to break his duck against England International girl Alex Peters and Sam Westmancoat suffered similarly  Find out more...

2010 series halved
On October 10th we were at home against Wellington College and played our match at East Berkshire Golf Club on a fine, warm, Autumn day.
We on the match 5 -3 and therefore halved the 2009 series. Full detals under match results.

MUGS match means 8 all in the series
The annual MUGS match against Surrey was played away this year at a beautiful West Hill Golf Course on a very windy but dry day. Unfortunately the U16s lost 4 out of the 5 morning foursomes matches leaving us too much to do in the afternoon. The overall result was that Surrey won by 9 points to 6 after the singles matches were halved.

The series now stands at 8 matches all and next year we will play at home back at Huntercombe.

U14 Team Plays Ryder Cup Home
On Monday August 17th the Under 14s went to Verulam for the last league match of this season. The Hertforshire club was the place where Samuel Ryder first proposed a match between two teams from either side of the Atlantic and which started one of the sport''s most famous competitions.

Our own competition was to play Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire with a win against both giving us the possibility of this years league title.

We trailed both Counties after the morning foursom Find out more...

Josh Stanners, Hazlemere and BB&O Junior Elite player shot a 5 under par on Brocket Hall's Palmerston course, 4 under in the morning and 1 under in the afternoon round.

Double Victory For Under 14
Four boys took maximum points at The Bedford Club on August 3rd to set up comprehensive victories against Middlesex and Bedfordshire.

Matteo DiCarlofelice, Sam Brass, Alex Bruce and Harvey Coyle all won both foursomes and both singles on a sunny but breezy day.

Foursomes are a difficult format but the morning event established a good new pairing between Di Carlofelice and Alistair Cameron with a strong double win out at number 2. A similar performance came from debutant Dav Find out more...

Good Start for Under 14
The BB&O Under 14 team kicked off their season with some good performances at Farnham Park.

In the tri-County match the team narrowly lost to a strong Herts team and comprehensively defeated Middlesex.

Luke Williams our 2009 BB&O Junior Champion
Luke Williams (Hadden Hill) beat Tyrrell Hatton (Harleyford) in a sensational 3 hole play off at Mill Ride on 9th April. Tied on 145 after 36 holes, a large crowd gathered to watch as Tyrrell started with 2 excellent pars and found himself 3 shots adrift after Luke's 2 twos at the short 15th and par 4 16th! Tyrrell's birdie 3 at the difficult 14th was to no avail as Luke calmly held his nerve to land his first big title. You can watch this event at www.buckstv.co.uk

Max wins the McEvoy!
Max Smith (Newbury Race Course & England U18) wins the 2009 Peter McEvoy 5 under par with rounds of 69, 35, 69 and 70, one shot clear from Billy Downing (Truro) with Joshua White (Chipstead) in third place. Heavy thunder reduced the first day's play to 27 holes and steady rain fall on the second day meant greens staff were kept busy keeping the greens free from casual water. Will, who was a regular player in the BB&O Under 14 Squad in 2008, fired a 2 over par to take the title.

Well done to Will who has had a very good season overall.

U13/12 vs County Girls
28/9/2008
Hazlemere Golf Club

On a sunny day with some very fast greens the U13/12s BB&O boys played a representative Girls side from the three Lady Unions.
The game was played in excellent spirit and some great golf was seen from both sides.
This was the first of these matches and hopefully will become a regular fixture.
After a very close match the boys gained an excellent win against a strong girls squad 5-4.

Junior Manager Vacancy
The BB&O Junior Management team is hoping to recruit a new Junior Manager following the resignation of Mike Styrka, the present U12 Manager, who has been in the role for some five years. We hope to attract a keen supporter of Junior Golf, someone who can spend time organising and supervising matches and coaching sessions. A person who is willing and able to be part of the strategic and tactical decision making forum. Someone, male or female, who can devote up to 10 odd days a year supporting Cou Find out more...

Open Days update
The recently staged open days were a huge success again with about 100 boys and girls attending the sessions at the three venues. So successful have they been so good was the talent that it will take us longer than anticipated to report back to individual participants. We aim to do this by early November. Thank you for your patience.

BB&O v Sussex Under 18s at Crews Hill
Dean Newbold (Frilford Heath) and Steven O'Connor (Tadmarton Heath) were the only winners for BB&O in the morning foursomes in which Sussex led by 4 points to 1. In the afternoon singles Chris Whelehan (West Berkshire), Steven O'Connor and James Bromham (Richings Park) all lost very close matches on the eighteenth whilst Michael Johnson (Maidenhead) came tantalisingly close to a win on the last green but secured a half. BB&O v Middlesex Under 18s at Crews Hill
Dean Newbold (Frilford Heath) and Steven O'Connor (Tadmarton Heath) were the only winners for BB & O in the morning foursomes which Middlesex won by 3.5 points to 1.5.

The afternoon singles saw a spirited fight by BB&O but the margins of victories in every match really meant that the overall result was a foregone conclusion at the turn. Nevertheless there were some good victories by Chris Whelehan (West Berkshire), the Frilford pair of Dean Newbold and George Munsey, James Bromham (Richin Find out more...

BB&O v Surrey Under 16s at Huntercombe
on August 26th 2008

The Mortimer Ubiquitous Golf Society (MUGS) hosted this event for the fifteenth consecutive year and, with home advantage, BB & O raced to an early lead in most of the foursomes and maintained that lead to lunch with what seemed like a comfortable advantage. However, a spirited fight back by Surrey in the afternoon singles clearly showed that the advantage was not comfortable.

Smith leads BB&O to 4somes victory at the Warren
The EGU SE group Foursomes took place at the Warren this August and having come third in this event last year the BB&O boys took the title for the first time since 1989 when Rob Watts and Jason Brant, now both County coaches, were part of that winning team. Taking an early lead after the first morning with a perfect 4 points, the boys repeated that performance in the afternoon and again the next morning thus going into the final afternoon's play 4 points ahead ahead of 2nd placed Sussex.
