EGU Announce PING/EGU Order of Merit and EGU Boys' Order of Merit 2008
We are once again pleased to announce details of the PING/EGU Order of Merit, generously supported and sponsored by PING Europe for the 2008 season. 2008 will also see the launch of the EGU Boys' Order of Merit for the first time, providing a schedule of recognised national events through the course of the season.
The purpose of the PING/EGU Order of Merit and EGU Boys' Order of Merit is to provide a recognised schedule of events in which the top English amateur golfers can compete. It is important to remember that the list of players produced is not intended to form a ranking of English amateurs by ability but to identify the best player over the series of events that are included in the Order of Merit. The updates of the PING/EGU Order of Merit and EGU Boys' Order of Merit will be used as a guideline by the England Selection Committees, as are several ranking systems in existence within amateur golf, in accordance with the England Selection Policy documents, copies of which are available on the website.
2008 promises to be a very competitive year with an exciting schedule ahead. Make sure you look out for the latest PING/EGU Order of Merit and EGU Boys' Order of Merit updates on the England Teams section of www.englishgolfunion.org.
Should you have any queries or wish to discuss any of the PING/EGU Order of Merit or EGU Boys' Order of Merit details further then please do not hesitate to contact sburnett@englishgolfunion.org.
Kind regards,
Stephen J. Burnett
Assistant Director of Coaching

PRESS RELEASE
EGU ANNOUNCE 2008 PING/EGU ORDER OF MERIT AND EGU BOYS' ORDER OF MERIT SCHEDULES
The EGU have announced an unchanged schedule of tournaments and championships that will form the basis for the 2008 PING/EGU Order of Merit and for the first time will be running a parallel programme of recognised events for English boy golfers. The EGU Boys' Order of Merit will commence with the McEvoy Trophy in April and conclude with the Faldo Series Grand Final in September while taking into account several of the leading under 18 events that take place throughout the season.
Chris Wood will be defending the PING/EGU Order of Merit title he won in 2007 after a series of consistent performances throughout the domestic schedule but 2008 will mark the first year the title of EGU Boys' Order of Merit winner will be up for grabs.
EGU Director of Coaching Peter Mattsson commented, We have been trialling an EGU Boys' Order of Merit for the last two years and we now feel we are in a position to introduce it into boys' amateur golf in England. We're aiming to replicate the success of the PING/EGU Order of Merit in men's golf by encouraging youngsters to compete in a recognised schedule of events and accumulate points throughout the domestic season.
Previous PING/EGU Order of Merit winners include Gary Wolstenholme, who last year was awarded an MBE for Services to Sport, Ross McGowan who has made a fantastic start to his European Tour career, and Gary Lockerbie and Matthew Richardson, currently competing on the Challenge Tour. |
