| U14 Team Plays Ryder Cup Home |
On Monday August 17th the Under 14s went to Verulam for the last league match of this season. The Hertforshire club was the place where Samuel Ryder first proposed a match between two teams from either side of the Atlantic and which started one of the sport''s most famous competitions.
Our own competition was to play Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire with a win against both giving us the possibility of this years league title.
We trailed both Counties after the morning foursomes when our three top pairings failed to score. But strong performances from Dan Hucker, Harvey Coyle, Henry Wilson and David Walton kept us in the match.
The afternoon singles were a different story. Hertfordshire put out an incredibly strong side with their top six players handicaps ranging from scratch to 6. Bedfordshire also had a strong side but neither they nor BB&O could live with the strength of the hosts.
Captain Matteo DiCarlofelice had an impressive win at number 1 against the Beds Captain and David Walton was the only player to score a maximum 4 points on the day. But there were good wins for Alex Bruce, Sam Brass, Alex Wills, Tom Butterworth and Alistair Cameron plus singles wins from the guys who won their foursome matches. So everybody in the team contributed on the day.
The final result was a defeat by Herts and another good win against Beds. The league finishes this week and we expect to finish one place better than last year in second with our only defeats coming at the hands of Herts.
